Welcome to the official website of the Higher Institute for Scientific and Medical Research (ISM)

ISM is a non-profit Cameroonian association working in the field of health, better known as CRFilMT (Center for Research on Filariasis and Other Tropical Diseases) and has been created in 2005 by the will of  Professor Joseph Kamgno

WHO ARE WE ?

In the context of onchocerciasis control, Serious Side Effects (SSEs) have been observed after treatment with ivermectin (Mectizan®) in areas where loasis is co-endemic. This is how ISM was born in 2005, whose best known name is CRFilMT.

Our ambition is to contribute to the resolution of health problems through applied scientific research as well as to develop a system of monitoring, prevention and management of serious side effects occurring after mass treatment campaigns with ivermectin (Mectizan®) for onchocerciasis among others.

The Departments We Work In

The work of ISM is divided into six distinct departments which are:

Parasitology

Parasitology is the scientific discipline concerned with the study of the biology of parasites and parasitic diseases including the host response to these agents

Molecular biology and
bio-informatics

It is the study of the composition and structure
of cellular molecules that carry out the biological processes essential for the cellular functions

Medical entomology

Entomology encompasses the biological, agricultural, and environmental sciences related to insects and their interactions with humans and other organisms

Immunobiology

Immunology is the study of the immune system and is a very important branch of the medical and biological sciences

Epidemiology
and Biostatistic

It is the branch of medicine which deals with the incidence, distribution, and possible control of diseases and other factors relating to health

Medical center

Medical center is a large health-care facility that provides medical and surgical. We are open every working day
